Most people don’t think about how tees are printed. And that's how fast fashion like it.
Not all graphic tees are created equal. Here’s how to spot the real deal.
We don’t expect everyone to obsess over print methods like we do. But here’s the truth: how your tee is printed makes or breaks everything.
Longevity. Colour. Feel. Even how your tee ages with you.
So let’s cut through the techy crap and break down the three most common ways a graphic ends up on cotton - and why Omenz doesn’t touch anything that can’t take a beating, and only make quality that can live to become your next vintage tee.
1. Screen Printing: The OG. The Workhorse. The One That Lasts.
How it works:
Ink is pushed through a stencil (or "screen") onto the fabric. Layer by layer. Manual or machine-assisted, but always with people, it's physical work. It's an old-school process, but that’s the point.
Why it hits hard:
- Deep ink penetration = prints that don’t crack or fade after five washes
- Bold, rich colours that hold up and kinda get cooler with age
- Built for bulk - but crafted, not stamped
- Feels like part of the tee, not stuck on top of it.
Downside:
- Takes time. Costs more. Needs real human skill.
That’s why fast fashion avoids it.
That’s why we use it.

2. Direct-To-Garment (DTG): Looks Sharp, Dies Young
How it works:
Think of it like an inkjet printer…but for fabric. It sprays the design right onto the tee. No screens, no setup - just digital direct printing.
Why it’s popular:
- Quick setup = good for one-off designs or test prints
- Great detail on light-coloured tees
- Cheap and easy to mass produce.
But here’s the catch:
- Doesn’t last long. Fades fast.
- Ink sits on top - cracks, peels, or dulls out
- Poor saturation on dark fabrics
- Feels like plastic under your fingers. And not a great combo with heat and sweat.
DTG is fine for gimmick merch. Not for your go-to tee.
3. Direct-To-Film (DTF): Fast, Flashy, and Kind of Feral
How it works:
The design is printed onto a special film, powdered with adhesive, heat-pressed onto the tee. It's the TikTok favourite right now - used everywhere from Etsy to fast-print kiosks.
Why it’s everywhere:
- No setup cost. Small batches. Big colours.
- Sticks to anything - cotton, poly, synthetic
- Glossy, flashy, kinda eye-catching.
The truth?
- Looks shiny and fake
- Peels faster than a bad sunburn
- Can suffocate the fabric - your tee feels stiff, not lived-in.
The shortcut that looks good in pics, not after wear.

WHY WE STICK TO SCREEN
Because we’re not here to make tees that look cool for one photo.
We’re here to make tees that feel like home, age like all of us legacy rebels of our era, and carry the story longer than the hype cycle.
Screen print isn’t fast.
It isn’t cheap.
It’s just right.
